Umeshu is a highly popular and regarded plum wine from Japan which has a history of over 1000 years, and is made by steeping un-ripe green Ume plums in sugar and Shochu; a Japanese distilled spirit with an alcohol content of about 35% by vol. Our Ohshukubai wine has honey and brandy added to develop the taste further. The wine is then left to mature for a numerous months, gently allowing it to fuse with the essence of plums.
The Ohshukubai Umeshu has a mellow sweet taste with a very smooth texture and is ideal as an aperitif consumed either straight, on the rocks or warmed, it can also be mixed with water or soda to produce a snazzy cocktail. Plum wine is synonymous with good health because of the citric acid and also the calcium and potassium that the Ume contains.
